Bryan Little scored with 2:09 remaining to break a tie as the host Winnipeg Jets dealt the Carolina Hurricanes their first regulation loss of the season in a 3-1 result Sunday night.

Josh Morrissey assisted on the winning goal, which was Little's first goal of the season. Kyle Connor added an empty-net goal with one second remaining.

The outcome increased Winnipeg's home-ice winning streak to 11 games, a stretch that extends to last season.

Carolina had been off to a 4-0-1 start, matching the best record through five games in franchise history.

All the game's scoring came in the third period.

Patrik Laine scored Winnipeg's first goal. Micheal Ferland responded for the Hurricanes, who were in the middle game of a three-game road swing.

Winnipeg goalie Laurent Brossoit, making his season debut, recorded 42 saves. The Jets are coached by former Carolina coach Paul Maurice.

Hurricanes goalie Petr Mrazek stopped 23 shots.

Laine opened the scoring with a goal 4:14 into the third period on a power-play goal. That came with Jordan Staal in the penalty box for holding.

Shortly before that sequence, Staal had been denied when his shot hit the post.

Ferland countered for Carolina with 12:17 to play in regulation. Coming from behind the net, he batted in a puck that was in the crease and might have crossed the line even without his help.

Sebastian Aho assisted on Ferland's goal, giving Aho at least one point in all six games this season. He scored the game-winning goal in overtime a day earlier at Minnesota.

For the second day in a row, the Hurricanes started fast with a strong first period. They held a 18-6 edge on shots.

On Saturday at Minnesota, Carolina posted a 20-5 advantage in shots through one period.

This time, though, it was a scoreless period. That ended the Hurricanes' streak of 13 consecutive regulation periods with at least one goal.

The second period was nearly even with Carolina holding a 14-13 edge in shots.

Mrazek stopped a two-on-none breakaway in the second period.
