Preview Roundups
April 11, 2017
Minnesota at Detroit 1:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins are in a different place than they were a season ago with timely hitting, pitching and defense as they continue their six-game road trip with a three-game set against the Detroit Tigers beginning Tuesday. Minnesota is off to a 5-1 start, winning its first two series - against Kansas City and the Chicago White Sox - for the first time since 2010 after needing 16 games to win five in 2016 when an 0-9 start led to a 59-103 finish and the worst record in baseball.
Chi. White Sox at Cleveland 4:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians play in front of their fans for the first time since Game 7 of the 2016 World Series and hope for a better result when they host the rival Chicago White Sox on Tuesday afternoon. The Indians started the season fast with a three-game sweep at Texas, including two late comebacks, but gave up 21 runs to lose three straight contests in Arizona.
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
Billy Hamilton looks to continue causing havoc at the top of the batting order for the Cincinnati Reds when they visit the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday in search of their sixth win in seven games. Hamilton recorded three hits, stole two bases and scored a pair of runs in Monday's series-opening  7-1 victory on Monday and is batting .346 overall while going 8-for-19 over his last four games.
St. Louis at Washington 7:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals halted a skid in a big way in the opener and hope they still have some offense left in the tank Tuesday as they continue their three-game series against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. Washington was outscored 21-6 in dropping two straight contests in Philadelphia over the weekend but broke out the bats in a 14-6 victory on Monday.
NY Mets at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
Jay Bruce struggled after being acquired last summer, but as his New York Mets visit the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday, the right fielder is off to a good start in 2017. Bruce slugged his third homer in seven games during Monday’s 4-3 victory in the series opener, finishing 2-for-3 to raise his average to .304 while scoring three runs and driving in three others.
Milwaukee at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays will try to bounce back from a brutal season-opening road trip when they begin their home slate against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday in the opener of a two-game set. The Blue Jays entered Monday's action as one of two American League teams with five losses, including three straight setbacks at Tampa Bay to end the trip.
Atlanta at Miami 7:10 PM ET
The Miami Marlins open the home portion of their schedule Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves, but will do so without the left side of their infield. Third baseman Martin Prado, sidelined with a hamstring injury suffered in the World Baseball Classic, will miss the two-game series as he begins a minor-league rehab assignment, and the Marlins placed shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria on the disabled list Sunday with a strained left oblique muscle.
Baltimore at Boston 7:10 PM ET
It may only be a week into the regular season, but the early story of the Boston Red Sox's campaign has been manager John Farrell's inability to fill out a lineup card in the way he had hoped during spring training. One day after placing Jackie Bradley Jr. on the disabled list, the Red Sox expect to get back Xander Bogaerts from bereavement leave on Tuesday as they return home to begin a two-game series with the Baltimore Orioles.
San Diego at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
The San Diego Padres are hoping Wil Myers continues to swing a hot bat when they visit the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday for the middle contest of their three-game set. Myers became the second player in San Diego history to hit for the cycle in Monday's series opener, going 4-for-4 in a 5-3 triumph for his fifth multi-hit performance in the last seven games.
Texas at LA Angels 10:07 PM ET
If Joey Gallo keeps this up, the Texas Rangers are going to have to find a way to keep their prodigious slugger around a little longer. Gallo looks to continue his hot start Tuesday as the Rangers head out on the road for the first time this season to begin a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels, who scored seven runs in the ninth inning Sunday to complete a three-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners.
Houston at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
Scott Servais told reporters he was confident in his team's ability to rebound following his team's gut-wrenching ninth-inning collapse on Sunday, and the Seattle Mariners spent the latter part of Monday's impressive win proving their manager correct. Coming off their most complete victory of the season, the Mariners attempt to win back-to-back games for the first time Tuesday, when they continue their three-game series against the visiting Houston Astros.
Arizona at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants have recorded consecutive wins for the first time this season but received a major scare when catcher Buster Posey was hit in the head by a Taijuan Walker pitch in the first inning Monday. Posey will almost surely miss Tuesday’s matchup against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks, who opened their 10-game road trip with Monday’s 4-1 loss to the Giants.
