Preview Roundups
January 23, 2018
New Jersey at Boston 7:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins not only are solidifying their playoff position with a remarkable run of success, they are moving much closer to taking over the top spot in both the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference. The surging Bruins look to extend their point streak to 17 games, without a key player on the blue line, and win for the fourth straight time when they host the struggling New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.
Carolina at Pittsburgh 7:00 PM ET
Matt Murray rejoined the Pittsburgh Penguins for practice on Monday, marking the first time that the two-time Stanley Cup-winning goaltender has done so since the death of his father. Murray could be back between the pipes on Tuesday as the Penguins begin a four-game homestand against the Metropolitan Division-rival Carolina Hurricanes.
Colorado at Montreal 7:30 PM ET
The last time the Colorado Avalanche played at the Bell Centre on Dec. 10, 2016, they were embarrassed 10-1 - hitting rock bottom in a season that saw them lose 60 games. The 10 these days represents Colorado's winning streak - the second-longest in club history behind the 12 straight in 1998-99 - as the NHL's hottest and most surprising team takes its act back to Montreal to face the Canadiens on Tuesday.
Philadelphia at Detroit 7:30 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers have been surging toward the upper echelon of the Metropolitan Division and look to continue their ascent when they visit the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. Philadelphia has climbed within two points of second place in the Metropolitan after winning seven of its last eight games, including Sunday's 2-1 overtime triumph on the road against division-leading Washington.
Ottawa at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
Jaden Schwartz could return to the lineup when the St. Louis Blues host the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday. Schwartz, who hasn't played since breaking his ankle on Dec. 9, was a full participant in Sunday's spirited practice, prompting coach Mike Yeo to tell reporters: "No easing him into it. He got the conditioning and he got the battle part of it and actually, he got through it, got through it well."
Tampa Bay at Nashville 8:00 PM ET
The Nashville Predators have been missing key players all season but continue to accumulate victories and hope to extend their winning streak to six games when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. Nashville scored three straight goals in the second period Saturday to rally past Florida 4-3 and improve to 5-0-1 in its last six contests to climb within one point of first-place Winnipeg in the Central Division.
Florida at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
The Dallas Stars used a strong road trip to draw within one point of third place in the Central Division and look to continue the momentum when they host the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. The Stars capped a 3-0-1 trek by demolishing Buffalo 7-1 and have earned points in 10 of 13 (9-3-1) entering the opener of a three-game homestand.
Buffalo at Edmonton 9:00 PM ET
Save for a brief stretch in mid-December, the 2017-18 campaign has been a disappointing one for the Edmonton Oilers. The club attempts to match its season-high four-game winning streak from last month when it continues its five-game homestand Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres.
Los Angeles at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
Goals likely will be at a premium on Tuesday as the Los Angeles Kings open a four-game road trip versus the Pacific Division-rival Vancouver Canucks. Los Angeles mustered just 11 goals during its season-high six-game winless skid before erupting in Sunday's 4-2 victory over the New York Rangers while Vancouver was shut out for the fourth time on the same day.
Columbus at Vegas 10:00 PM ET
In the midst of a stretch in which they are playing 10 of 12 on the road, the Vegas Golden Knights look to pad the league's best home record when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night. Vegas wrapped up a 2-1-1 road trip with a 5-1 thumping at Carolina on Sunday that gave the expansion team the league's best record at the end of the weekend.
NY Rangers at Anaheim 10:00 PM ET
The New York Rangers have stumbled for the better part of two weeks with losses in five of their last seven contests, including the first two stops on their four-game road trip. The Rangers aim to regain their footing on Tuesday against a team that they have dominated of late: the Anaheim Ducks.
Winnipeg at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The San Jose Sharks have thrived despite a packed scheduled coming out of their break, but there's no rest for the weary as they prepare to host the Central Division-leading Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night. The Sharks routed Anaheim 6-2 to improve to 5-1-0 during a nine-day span following the bye to surge into second place in the Pacific Division.
